This Martial Art is designed for the purpose of street survival. It is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extremely brutal counter-attacks. It was developed by the Israeli Defense Force to be used in real life combat situations. The idea behind it was developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, a former Chief Instructor for Physical Fitness and Krav Maga at the IDF School of Combat Fitness. The art incorporates some aspects of Karate kicks, traditional Boxing punches, Jiu Jitsu ground fighting and even Jiu Jitsu grappling.
This Martial Art can be for sport, fitness or self-defense and is based on kicking and punching. The key to this Martial Art is agility and speed. There are different origins of the sport but the common ones include the Japanese and American Kickboxing. The Japanese Kickboxing originated in the 1960s and by the 1970s and 1980s it had expanded beyond Japan and had reached Europe and North America. The art combines kicks, knees, head butts and punches to disarm the opponent or attacker.
This is a full-contact Martial Art that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting techniques. It was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by the Gracie family from a series of Kodokan Judo and Japanese Ju Jitsu. It is based out of Brazil and is both simple and effective. The art of JiuJitsu incorporates elements of joint locks, eye gouging, biting, grappling, choke holds as well as hard striking.
Also known as the Art of Eight Limbs, this Martial Art is one of the staples of MMA style fighting as it not only utilizes western Boxing punches, but also brings in elbows, kicks and knees. It originated in Thailand and is believed to have started as a skill developed during close combat battles. The art is an important component of Thai culture from the start and remains so even in the modern day. Its focus areas include punches, kicks, strikes from the elbows and small quantities of grappling while standing.
Kung Fu is a rigorous and physical form of Karate that involves more fluid movements. It is popularly referred to as Wushu or Gongfu. Nowadays it is regarded as a traditional sport and even stands as a representative for Chinese culture. It originated from China and was originally developed over 4,000 years ago. Initially, it was utilized simply as a form of wrestling before having joint manipulation, strikes, throws and other styles added in as the art evolved.
